It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Daniel Alexander Simec at home, December 4, 2015.
Dan was born in Toronto to Nicholas & Mary Simec. Dan graduated from Ryerson Polytechnical Institute as an Engineering Designer and soon went to work for DSMA Intl, consulting engineers. An outstanding designer who eventually became an Associate in the firm, he was very proud to have contributed to the “Canada Arm”, and many other leading edge engineering projects. Dan then worked briefly for Vadeko Engineering, and later for Aiolos Engineering. With his energy and vision, he bought a century home in Erin Township and turned it into a showplace hobby farm.
Dan later indulged his desire to sail, keeping a Hughes 26’sail boat in Port Credit for several years. He also travelled a widely with Brenda, his wife and companion of forty years, to the Caribbean, Mexico, Europe, Turkey, Morocco, and beyond.
In 2000 Dan and Brenda retired and moved to a property on Six Mile Lake. There Dan again beautifully renovated his new home. Soon he became a founding member of the Georgian Shield Taxpayers Assn. Eventually he ran for election as a local Councillor. In recent years, Dan and Brenda spent winters in Florida, with Dan’s beloved pet boxer, Zoe.
Dan dearly loved get-togethers with family and friends, continually challenging himself to serve them new, memorable dishes. His gardening abilities were the envy of friends and neighbors. Dan was also incredibly proud of his Ukrainian heritage.
There are no words to describe Dan`s loss to his immediate family: wife, Brenda, and children Daniel Jason (Colleen) and Renee, and step-son, Michael (Lariza); sister, Pat(Reg),as well as cherished grandchildren Erik, Nicole, Nadine and John, and step-grandchildren Ingi and Maira. He will also be sadly missed by his nieces, nephews and cousins in Nova Scotia, Ontario and Manitoba. Dan was predeceased by brothers, John and Tom.
A celebration of Dan’s life will be held, following cremation, at Nicholls Funeral Home, Midland on Saturday, December 19, beginning at 1:00PM. On line condolences at:nichollsfuneral.ca. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Heart & Stroke Foundation would be appreciated.
