Keenan, Frank passed away peacefully after a brief illness at Hillcrest Village, Midland on Tuesday, December 24th, 2013, in his 91st year.
Leaving the family farm at 16, he moved to Toronto, eventually starting his retail career with the S. S. Kressge Co. and Beamish stores, becoming Manager of the Kressge store at Bloor and Bathurst Streets where Honest Ed would stop over for coffee. An opportunity to move to Midland in 1959 to manage Cross Country Stores was a chance he took. After 10 years, he opened his own store, Keenan's Department Store in 1970. His dream come true for 28 years, lots of children left with mitts and hats and free horse rides. As a true Irishman, dad enjoyed good times with his friends at the coffee club: Dean, Graham, Tom, Morris, Clive, Gerry, Jack, Frank, Al, Ron, Ernie, Jerome, Howard and more. Dad and mom enjoyed lots of good times with their boating buddies on Beausoleil Island. Golfing, fishing, playing cards and spending time in Florida, where they met many new friends, were good times. Frank will be sadly missed by Tom and Ruth Garner with whom they had many adventures. Predeceased by Rose Trainor, Joe, Ambrose and Tom. Special uncle to Dan and Valerie, Joe and Mary Ellen, Sam and Sharon, and Mary and Dave (Munnoch). Fondly remembered by the Small and Trainor families. His beloved wife Isabel passed away on 2007, after which things weren't the same. He will always be loved and missed by sons Wayne and Brian. The family will receive friends at the Nicholls Funeral Home, 330 Midland Avenue, Midland on Monday, December 30th from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Margaret's Church, 589 Hugel Avenue, Midland on Tuesday, December 31st at 10.a.m. Spring interment at St. Margaret's Cemetery, Midland. If desired, memorial donations to the Canadian Cancer Society or to St. Margaret's Cemetery would be appreciated.
NOW WITH MOM
