William “Billy” Mackey, 56, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family at the Georgian Bay General Hospital on Friday, January 13, 2017 in Midland, Ontario after a brave 12 month battle with brain cancer. Born in Toronto to Lena (deceased) and John Mackey where he lived as a child before moving to Port Severn.

Billy would light up every room he entered and make people laugh with his many one-liners. He was loved in his community of Waubaushene where he operated Mackey’s Automotive for 33 years and was the kind of person who would do anything for his family and friends. Billy enjoyed fishing, cracking jokes, cold pints with family and friends and barbecuing at the cottage while making the ones he loved giggle and smile.

Billy is survived by his wife Wendy of 33 years, daughter Britney and son Jon, his sister Helen Zonneveld and her husband John and daughters Stacey and Paula, his brother Kevin and his wife Charlene and children Spencer and Lena, sisters in-law Brenda Barron and Darlene Kinney and husband Neil Kinney. Billy was a loving husband, father, brother, brother in-law, uncle and friend to all who knew him and will be sadly missed.

A special thank you to the Georgian Bay General Hospital, Sunnybrook Odette Cancer Centre and Orillia Soldiers Memorial Hospital for their loving care and support which Billy and family appreciated every step of the way. In lieu of flowers we ask you to donate to one of the above. In support of others currently battling this disease donations specifically to the Gord Downie Fund for Brain Cancer Research through the Sunnybrook Foundation would be greatly appreciated. Memorial donations will also be accepted at Nicholls Funeral Home.

Cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Life will be held at the North Simcoe Sports and Recreation Centre in Midland on Saturday, April 1st from 12-4 p.m.
